Client Zone Client organaisations have an obligation to both be lawful and ensure those they engage are also lawful in respect of Equality. Client's need to review and where necessary change operational processess as well as embracing cultural change within their own organisations. The 2010 Equality Act imposes provision: “to enable duties to be imposed in relation to the exercise of public procurement functions”. Clients must therefore consider both their own Equality status and that of those they employ or engage with. Increasingly private sector procurement is required to consider Equality. Compliance with the law is clearly necessary and those schemes which are co-funded with public sector support will need to consider the full imposition of public sector regulations. Supply Chain Zone All companies need to comply with the Equality Act 2010. Some but not all construction companies are now fully compliant. Outdated company systems and policies have been replaced by new more rigorous protocols set out within the act. Compliance with the law is obligatory and also vital if companies are to trade with public sector clients. Equality provisions are already common within tendering processes and evidence of compliance is essential to enable clients to select the appropriate provider. Meeting the New Standard The new National Built Environment Equality Standard is accredited by the University of Salford, School of the Built Environment. The new standard has four levels of accreditation, each is designed to develop the organisations equality skills. Level One - Gaining Awareness Level Two - Making Change Level Three - Developmental Progression Level Four - Exemplar Programme Level One can be offered as an online training module as well as physical delivery at the requesting organisations premises. Levels Two and Three are specific prospectus led programmes designed to address practical, cultural, processes and company systems.
